As I like any type of recovery vehicles it was only a question of time until I would design the Queen Marry trailer. The Airfix recovery Set gave me the dimensions so that the construction was not so complicated. Only with the tractor I was not so happy. The Airfix tractor looks too small. Therefore I went with the Crossley Q tractor. This was the combination I found several times on the internet.

Die Idee kam mir, als ich das Airfix "RAF revocery Set" gesehen hatte. Also den Anhänger gezeichnet; dabei musste ich mit den Verstrebungen einige Kompromisse eingehen, um die Mindestdruckanforderungen zu erreichen. Als Zugmaschine kommt das Airfix Set mit einem kleinen LKW daher. Der gefiel mir auf Anhieb nicht. Bei der Suche im Internet bin ich dann auf die Zugmachine von Crossley gestossen. Dieser Crossley Q Tractor macht irgendwie mehr her. Mit der Bemalung hatte ich etwas Probleme, das typische Blau der RAF hatte ich nicht, weshalb ich auf die beiden später verwendeten Farben umgestiegen bin.

Alles in allem ein schönes Modell, besonders weil die Verstrebungen recht gut raus kamen. Die Rampe am Anhänger kann wahlweise offen oder geschlossen dargestellt werden.

Build your own Bergepanther!

For several weeks they offer Panther versions for a small price at eBay.
I took the chance and bought some of them. Besides the fact, that they come with wheels (and a  ball) on the bottom, they look not so bad.
So I decided to transfer them into Bergepanzer Bergepanther.
The good point is, that the Bergepanther was used in several different versions. There was the main version with a spade and complete wooden box on top, with the winch inside. On the front plate was a heavy machine gun. The machine gun is visible only on some official pictures, on battlefields I never saw the machine gun.
The first version were field improvements, they simply took the turret off (we talk about damaged Panthers) and closed the opening with a wooden plate. These versions had no winch, no spade.
The next step was the real Bergepanther, which MAN built. They came with the winch and the spade. On top was an open wooden box. The crane was added on the side in three or 4 parts. 
For the conversation I created a simple 3D set, so that I have all parts needed to change the Panther into a Bergepanther. As the machine gun never saw action, I skipped it.

Umbau eines Panthers in einen Bergepanther!

Bereits seit einigen Wochen kann man bei Ebay recht günstige Sets mit Panther und Tiger Panzern kaufen. Ich habe einige dieser Panther gekauft und diese zu Bergepanzern umgebaut. Den Bergepanther gab es in zwei Versionen, einmal die verschiedenen Feldumbauten der Panzereinheiten, da nicht genügend Famos zur Bergung zur Verfügung standen, später kamen die offiziellen Neubauten von MAN dazu. Diese hatten einen nach oben offenen Holzaufbau, eine eingebaute 40 ton Winde und einen absenkbaren Erdsporn. Das Maschinengewehr, welches man auf einigen Fotos sieht, hat nach meinem wissen nie den Eingang in die Serie geschaffen.

Der Umbau:
Zunächst entfernt man diese Räder und die kleine Metallkugel. Den Turm abnehmen und den Nippel zur Führung des Turms entfernen. Ich habe hierzu die Panzer in einen Schraubstock gespannt und erst mit einem Bohrer und dann mit einem Fräser ein grösseres Loch in die Oberseite gefräst.
Den Aufbau mit der Nachbildung der Winde wie auch den Erdsporn habe ich in 3D gezeichnet und mir drucken lassen. Aufkleben und mit etwas Geschick lässt sich der Erdsporn sogar beweglich darstellen. Allerdings muss man hierzu an der Rückseite ein wenig mit der Feile Platz schaffen.
Wem dies alles zuviel ist, kann auch einen fertigen Bausatz von Arrowhead Miniatures kaufen, allerdings auch der muss geklebt und komplett lackiert werden. Das Maschinengewehr auf der Frontplatte habe ich weggelassen.

Lackierung:
Alle Farbschemata der Einheiten die Panther benutzt haben, sind hier möglich, der Bergepanther fand Einsatz auf allen Kriegsschauplätzen (außer Afrika, da war Schluss, bevor der Panther richtig zur Verfügung stand).

Everything started with a small picture frame which I had left. Basement is a piece of white cardboard, so that I could build up everything without always using the frame.

For the open field fortification I used a silicone form which I had made some weeks ago. For the cast I used a type of liquid porcelain, which I always use if you need very detailed surfaces. The landscape is done with "Das Modelliermasse" the clay I ad used several times in the past. The advantage is, that it longer flexible and lighter than plaster.

Half a day later, the grass is glued and everything is dried. The fortification is big enough for a 88 Flak. On the corners you can see one disadvantage of the material, it bends the cardboard.

Adding a small tree and a bit of foliage to bring some life on the diorama. the entrance area has changed, I took the concrete away and added some wooden profiles. Here you see my new Flak 41 in action.

For the final version I placed a Volkswagen and added a complete crew to the Flak.

Now it looks a bit more realistic.

Mini-diorama, German Tank in autumn field 12/52

Instead of always doing dioramas with a summer theme, I decided to try the yellow grass, which I had bought many years ago. So taking one of my small painting canvas and in less than 1 day it was done. For the second version I thought I should do something with the tank chains. Putting them in the ground has the disadvantage, that they are then blocked with plaster or whatever you use for the ground. So I got the idea to do a form in 3D so that I could press as much thank chains as I want. Okay the prototype was a bit to big, so I had to cut of the corners. But the result was excellent.
Instead of  plaster I used a soft material, which is called "Das modelling clay"

Ich wollte mal ein Diorama mit einem Herbst Thema gestalten, Sommer-Dioramas habe ich schon genügend. In meinem Keller hatte ich von Woodland noch entsprechendes gelbes  Gras. Also einen meiner kleinen Bilderrahmen genommen und in weniger als einem Tag war ich fertig.  Danach wollte ich abe rnoch Kettenspuren auf dem Modell darstellen. Bisher hatte ich da nicht ganz so gute Erfahrungen gemacht, weil meist danach die Ketten des benutzten Panzers hin waren. So kam wir die Idee, dies einfach mit einer Walze in 3D drucken zu lassen. Da der PRototyp etwas zu gross geraten war, musste ich die Ränder abschneiden. Danach noch schnell weisse Knetmasse verwendet und ich hatte ein super Ergebnis. 
In den nächsten Tagen werde ich auch noch das zweite Diorama fertig stellen.

On several forums I saw these types of trailers for crews from field air bases. I always wanted to design this type of trailer. In Germany they were very popular with Circuses.  As a tractor they used most times the Hanomag SS 100.

Der Wohnanhänger hat mich schon lange Zeit gereizt. Immer wieder fand ich in verschiedenen Foren Fotos von solchen "Zirkusanhängern", die insbesondere die Luftwaffe für die Unterbringung ihres Personals benutzt hatte.

Der Anhänger hat kein 100% Vorbild, jedoch entspricht er im Wesentlichen dem, was ich an Fotos gesehen hatte. Anmalen geht auch in fast allen Formen und Farben, es gab sogar Anhänger mit Tarnchemata. Als Zugfahrzeug kam sehr oft der Hanomag SS 100 zum Einsatz.

Oben zeige ich die ersten Fotos von meinem neuen Streckensicherungszug Typ ULM. Wahrscheinlich ist die Bezeichnung nicht 100%  korrekt. In einem alten Waffen Arsenal Heft, wurde dieser Wagen als Geschützwagen I vorgestellt. Gleichzeitig wurde da schon darauf hingewiesen, dass die Reichsbahn als Wagentyp den Typ Ulm nahm, für die Bewaffnung eine Flak, also was gerade übrig war. Neben der Waffenplattform gab es noch eine Unterkunft für die Mannschaft mit Toilette, Schlafgelegenheit und einem Ofen. Fertig war der Begleitwagen zum Schutz der regulären Reichsbahnzüge. Das Modell steht auf N-Gleisen.

It is done. Even it is one of the smallest dioramas i must say, it took the most time. I started with it many years before when the bonne china cup broke. But just last night I finished the painting of the two soldiers. So just a nice diorama with a very long finishing time.
The tank is from dragon and all openings are done with small drills.

Mein Kaffeetassendiorama ist nicht das grösste Diorama, aber definitiv das mit der längsten Fertigstellungszeit. Die Kaffeetasse war irgendwann 2006 hingefallen und ich hatte sie mal provisorisch geklebt. Dann kam mir die Idee einen Panzer IV mal mit offenen Türen und Luke darzustellen. Die Landschaft war schnell fertig, der Panzer wurde in den letzten Monaten fertig. Letzte Nacht habe ich dann mal endlich die Besatzung fertig angemalt.

Der Panzer ist von Dragon, die Soldaten von F-Toys.
