51/52 französische Kanone auf Feldbahn

Die Idee zu diesem ungewöhnlichen Transport kam mir, als ich im Internet auf der Suche war, nach französischen Feldbahnen im ersten Weltkrieg. Und plötzlich sah ich diese Zeichnung. Offensichtlich ein etwas grösseres Kanonenrohr, wird mit Hilfe einer Feldbahn zu einer Stellung gebracht.

Mit der Zeichnung konnte ich aber nicht viel anfangen, da hier so ziemlich alle Abmessungen fehlten. Erst als ich dann in einem weiteren Dokument sogar eine technische Zeichnung mit einigen Abmessungen fand, konnte ich das Modell zeichnen. Was mir aktuell aber noch fehlt, ist die richtige französiche Feldbahn-Lokomotive. Ich habe bereits einige Modelle identifiziert, bin aber noch nicht zum Zeichnen gekommen.

Die Identifikation des Kanonenrohrs war auch nicht einfach. Wahrscheinlich ist es ein Marinegeschütz, 220 mm oder 360 mm, so ungefähr. Diese wurden wohl in Stellungen eingebaut und damit die Deutschen willkommen geheissen. 

Eventuell würde auch ein Lastwagen aus dem ersten Weltkrieg gut dazu passen, aber auch hier, mir fehlt die Zeit, ich muss noch viele andere angefangene Modelle fertigstellen.

Das Diorama sollte nicht zu gross werden, daher habe ich wieder einen meiner alten Holzrahmen genommen und das Modell draufgesetzt. Als keinen Hingucker habe ich noch den Eingangsbereich eines Forts nachgebildet.

51/52 French cannon on a narrow-gauge railway

The idea for this unusual transport came to me when I was searching the internet for French narrow-gauge railways in the First World War. And suddenly I saw this drawing. Obviously a somewhat larger cannon barrel is being brought into position with the help of a narrow-gauge railway.

However, I couldn't do much with the drawing because pretty much all the dimensions were missing. It was only when I found a technical drawing with some dimensions in another document that I was able to draw the model. What I'm still missing, though, is the right French light railway locomotive. I've already identified a few models, but I haven't gotten around to drawing them yet.

Identifying the gun barrel was also not easy. It is probably a naval gun, 220 mm or 360 mm, approximately. These were probably installed in positions and used to welcome the Germans. 

A truck from the First World War would also be a good fit, but here too, I don't have the time, as I still have to finish many other models I have started.

The diorama shouldn't be too big, so I used one of my old wooden frames again and placed the model on top of it. As a small eye-catcher, I recreated the entrance area of a fort.

Den Platformwagen Modell Pechot habe ich schon lange. Aber ich dachte, ich brauche noch eine weitere französische Lokomotive. Meine Wahl fiel auf das Modell 1916 der französisches Firma Schneider. Die Lokomotive wurde sehr oft gebaut und ich habe, was die Motorabdeckung angeht, einige Varianten gefunden. Letztlich habe ich mich dazu entschieden, die einfachste Vairante zu zeichnen. So war das Modell auch nach knapp einem Tag fertig. Die Lokomotive wird dann später bei mir auch das schwere Kanonenrohr ziehen.

I have had the Pechot platform car model for a long time. But I thought I needed another French locomotive. I chose the 1916 model from the French company Schneider. This locomotive was built very often, and I found several variants in terms of the engine cover. In the end, I decided to draw the simplest variant. The model was finished in just under a day. The locomotive will later be used to pull the heavy cannon barrel.

44/52 maison Forte oder ein sehr ungewöhnliches Wochenendhäuschen

1/144 französischer Bunker mit Wohnhaus

Weiter geht es mit dem Aufräumen und Fertigstellen von alten "Leichen" auf meinem Basteltisch. Der Druck wird grösser, ich habe mir vorgenommen, zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr den ganzen Raum aufzuräumen und mal auch wieder alle Flecken auf dem Boden und dem Basteltisch zu beseitigen.

Auch dieses Modell habe ich schon lange gezeichnet und auch schon zum zweiten Mal drucken lassen. Beim ersten Mal war der ganze Druck einfach nur für den Mülleimer, beim zweiten Mal habe ich was Neues geschafft. Die eine Seite wurde spiegelverkehrt gedruckt. Wie das passieren konnte, habe ich bis heute nicht heruasgefunden. Aber ich bin hingegangen, habe alles abgeschliffen, die Fenster und Türöffnungen gespachtet und dann neu lackiert. 

Die französische Armee hatte diese Bunker mit einem Wohnhaus getarnt. Gedacht waren diese Bunker als Wikkommensgruss für die Wehrmacht. Dicht an der Grenze sollten sie den schnellen Vormarsch aufhalten oder zumindest verlangsamen. Also lag es nahe, das Modell an einem Waldweg zu platzieren und eine Grenze zu skizzieren.

I'm continuing to tidy up and finish old “corpses” on my craft table. The pressure is mounting; I've decided to tidy up the whole room between Christmas and New Year and finally get rid of all the stains on the floor and craft table. I drew this model a long time ago and had it printed for the second time. The first time, the entire print was simply thrown in the trash, but the second time I created something new. One side was printed mirror-inverted. I still haven't figured out how that could have happened. But I went ahead and sanded everything down, filled in the window and door openings, and then repainted it. The French army had camouflaged these bunkers with a residential building. These bunkers were intended as a welcome gift for the Wehrmacht. Close to the border, they were supposed to stop or at least slow down the rapid advance. So it made sense to place the model on a forest path and sketch a border.

Am 1. August eines jeden Jahres begeht die Schweiz ihren Nationalfeiertag. Für mich die Gelegenheit, doch nach über 15 Jahren wieder das Panzermuseum Full zu besuchen. Das Museum liegt bei Koblenz (Schweiz) nur einen Steinwurf von der deutschen Grenze entfernt. Da am 2. August ein größeres Event im Museum geplant war, hatte ich Glück, die Zahl der Besucher hielt sich in Grenzen und ich konnte ungestört fotografieren. Das Museum besteht aus zwei Hallen, die dritte ist aber schon in Planung. In der Haupthalle erstreckt sich die Ausstellung auf über 4 Etagen. In der zweiten Halle stehen die Fahrzeuge leider sehr dicht gedrängt, weshalb fotografieren oft sehr schwer oder sogar nur eingeschränkt möglich ist.  Dafür hat das Museum viele ungewöhnliche Exponate. Natürlich Ketten- und Radfahrzeuge aus schweizer Produktion, aber auch einige amerikanische Fahrzeuge, die kurz nach Ende des 2. Weltkrieges, ihren Einzug in die schweizer Armee fanden.

Ein Highlight des Museums muss ich noch erwähnen: den Königstiger. Dieser steht heute zusammengebaut in der Halle und ist auch fast wieder fahrbereit. Es hängt noch etwas am Motor und Getriebe. Diese sollen aber spätestens Ende des Jahres wieder von der Aufarbeitung zurück sein, und dann hat das Museum einen fahrbereiten Königstiger.

Mein zweiter Abstecher, nur wenige hundert Meter entfernt, galt dem Bunkermuseum Reuenthal. Dies hatte geschlossen, was mich aber nicht störte, ich wollte die Anlage ja von außen sehen. Auf der Spitze des Berges befinden sich zwei Bunker und zwei hervorragend getarnte Kasematten.  Wer mehr über diese Bunker erfahren will, kann einfach die Museums-Website besuchen.

Full Tank Museum

Every year on August 1, Switzerland celebrates its national holiday. For me, this was an opportunity to visit the Full Tank Museum again after more than 15 years. The museum is located near Koblenz (Switzerland), just a stone's throw from the German border. Since a major event was planned at the museum on August 2, I was lucky that the number of visitors was limited and I was able to take photos undisturbed. The museum consists of two halls, but a third is already in the planning stages. In the main hall, the exhibition extends over four floors. In the second hall, the vehicles are unfortunately very crowded together, which often makes photography very difficult or even impossible.  On the other hand, the museum has many unusual exhibits. Of course, there are Swiss-made tracked and wheeled vehicles, but there are also some American vehicles that found their way into the Swiss army shortly after the end of World War II.

I must mention one highlight of the museum: the King Tiger. It is now assembled in the hall and is almost ready to drive again. There is still some work to be done on the engine and transmission. However, these should be back from refurbishment by the end of the year at the latest, and then the museum will have a King Tiger that is ready to drive.

My second detour, just a few hundred meters away, was to the Reuenthal Bunker Museum. It was closed, but that didn't bother me, as I just wanted to see the facility from the outside. At the top of the mountain are two bunkers and two excellently camouflaged casemates.  If you want to learn more about these bunkers, just visit the museum's website.

Das Modell der französischen Panzerlok entstand in knapp einem Tag. Eigentlich habe ich ja genug andere versprochene Modelle zu erledigen, aber das Modell war etwas zur Entspannung. Zusammen mit den bereits existierenden Flachbett-Anhängern vom Modell Pechot entsteht so ein schönes Zugset aus dem 1. Weltkrieg. Das Modell kommt wie immer mit beweglichen Drehgestellen daher.

Bei Bedarf kann ich das Modell auch gerne in größeren Maßstäben oder als Doppelset anbieten.

Leider hat wohl nur ein Exemplar den Krieg bis heute überstanden. Dafür habe ich umso mehr Quellen im Internet gefunden.

The model of the French tank locomotive was created in just under a day. Actually I have enough other promised models to do, but the model was something to relax. Together with the already existing flatbed trailers from the Pechot model, this makes a nice WW1 train set. The model comes as always with movable bogies.

If needed, I can also offer the model in larger scales or as a double set.

Unfortunately, only one model survived the war. But I have found all the more sources on the Internet.

Vor ein paar Wochen ergab es sich, dass ich die Chance hatte, das Panzermuseum in Straßburg zu besuchen. Auch wenn dies erst auf der Rückreise einer längeren Fahrt möglich war und ich mit meinen Stöcken (wegen meines Unfalls) nicht wirklich mobil war, habe ich mich aufgerafft und das Museum besucht. Der Besuch hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Leider war ich zu müde und kaputt, jedes und alle Fahrzeuge und Panzer zu fotografieren. So habe ich besonders bei den russischen und amerikanischen Panzern einige übersprungen. Aber da gibt es ja auch genug Fotos an jeder Ecke des Internets. Aber ganz sicher ein Highlight des Museums sind die vielen LKWs aus französischer, italienischer und deutscher Produktion, die sieht man dann schon wieder nicht in jedem Museum. So konnte ich doch einige schöne Fotos machen. Es gibt sogar eine große Besonderheit. Das Museum zeigt auch ein Schiff! Und dieses schwimmt sogar in seinem eigenen Becken. In einem Seitenbereich befindet sich ein Wasserbecken mit einem Flugsicherungsboot. Dieses kann man auch betreten und sich von innen ansehen. Das musste ich leider ausfallen lassen, aber vielleicht gibt es ja dann mal ein 3D Modell des Flugsicherungsbootes. Da die Fotos viel Speicherplatz benötigen, habe ich diese auf Flickr hochgeladen und in ein Album gepackt. Die Fotos sind noch nicht alle fertig beschriftet, aber das wird sicherlich auch noch länger dauern.

MM Park France in La Wantzenau

A few weeks ago it happened that I had the chance to visit the tank museum in Strasbourg. Even though this was only possible on the return journey of a longer trip and I was not really mobile with my canes (because of my accident), I got up and visited the museum. The visit was definitely worth it. Unfortunately, I was too tired and knackered to photograph each and all of the vehicles and tanks. So I skipped some especially with the Russian and American tanks. But there are enough photos at every corner of the internet. But certainly a highlight of the museum are the many trucks from French, Italian and German production, which you see then again not in every museum. So I could take some nice photos. There is even a big special feature. The museum also shows a ship! And this one even swims in its own basin. In a side area there is a water basin with an air traffic control boat. You can also enter this and look at it from the inside. Unfortunately I had to skip that, but maybe there will be a 3D model of the air traffic control boat some day. Because the photos need a lot of space, I uploaded them to Flickr and put them into an album. The photos are not all labeled yet, but that will surely take longer.

Eigentlich darf ich hier keine neuen Modelle vorstellen, ich habe noch zwei fest versprochene Modelle, die ich fertig stellen muss. Daher, sobald ich hier fertig bin, werde ich den Mercedes L 10000 fertig zeichnen. :-)

Der Laffly S20 Tankwagen hatte ich im Internet gesehen und mir gefiel die ungewöhnliche Form des Aufbaus und des Führerhauses. Also habe ich das Modell gezeichnet und werde es mit der nächsten Bestellung dann drucken lassen. Es wird auch noch ein oder zwei Varianten geben, doch die kommen erst nach dem Mercedes.

Das Original fuhr wohl in einigen Exemplaren auch bei der Wehrmacht, aber ich habe keine Fotos gefunden. Wenn es stimmt, dann wurden von dem Tankwagen auch nur 65 Stück gebaut.

Wer aussergewöhliche Lackierungen mag, der sollte mal hier schauen, da ist der Tankwagen mit einem Tarnschema gebaut worden.

Actually, I'm not allowed to introduce new models here, I still have two firmly promised models that I have to finish. Therefore, as soon as I finish here, I will finish drawing the Mercedes L 10000. :-)

The Laffly S20 tanker I had seen on the internet and I liked the unusual shape of the body and the cab. So I drew the model and will have it printed with the next order. There will also be one or two variants, but they will come after the Mercedes.

The original probably drove in some copies also with the Wehrmacht, but I have not found any photos. If it is true, then only 65 of the tanker were built.

08/52 Billard T75 als Zuggarnitur für V1 Transport

Ebenfalls fertig geworden ist auch meine erste französiche Lokomotive, die Billard T75. Zusammen mit dem Plattformwagen von 1888 gibt es so gleich 3 neue Sets für den Bereich Schmallspur. Den ersten Artikel hierzu, gab es hier. Sollte ich einen Massstab noch nicht umgewandelt haben und ihr wollt diese Version (1/160 bis 1/72 sind möglich).

Die kleine Lokomotive wurde auch im Bereich einiger Maginot Bunker eingesetzt, innerhalb der Bunker kamen jedoch kleine Elektro oder Batterie-Loks zum Einsatz.

Ich habe schon darauf hingewiesen, die Version mit dem Transport der V1 ist spekulativ, aber es passt halt gut.

Also finished is my first french locomotive, the Billard T75. Together with the platform car of 1888, there are 3 new sets for the narrow gauge range. The first article about this, was here. If I have not yet converted a scale and you want this version (1/160 to 1/72 are possible).

The small locomotive was also used in the area of some Maginot bunkers, but inside the bunkers small electric or battery locomotives were used.

I already pointed out, the version with the V1 transport is speculative, but it just fits well.

Mini-diorama, German Tank in autumn field 12/52

Instead of always doing dioramas with a summer theme, I decided to try the yellow grass, which I had bought many years ago. So taking one of my small painting canvas and in less than 1 day it was done. For the second version I thought I should do something with the tank chains. Putting them in the ground has the disadvantage, that they are then blocked with plaster or whatever you use for the ground. So I got the idea to do a form in 3D so that I could press as much thank chains as I want. Okay the prototype was a bit to big, so I had to cut of the corners. But the result was excellent.
Instead of  plaster I used a soft material, which is called "Das modelling clay"

Deutsche Version

Ich wollte mal ein Diorama mit einem Herbst Thema gestalten, Sommer-Dioramas habe ich schon genügend. In meinem Keller hatte ich von Woodland noch entsprechendes gelbes  Gras. Also einen meiner kleinen Bilderrahmen genommen und in weniger als einem Tag war ich fertig.  Danach wollte ich abe rnoch Kettenspuren auf dem Modell darstellen. Bisher hatte ich da nicht ganz so gute Erfahrungen gemacht, weil meist danach die Ketten des benutzten Panzers hin waren. So kam wir die Idee, dies einfach mit einer Walze in 3D drucken zu lassen. Da der PRototyp etwas zu gross geraten war, musste ich die Ränder abschneiden. Danach noch schnell weisse Knetmasse verwendet und ich hatte ein super Ergebnis. 
In den nächsten Tagen werde ich auch noch das zweite Diorama fertig stellen.

1/144 and 1/160 Peugeot, a French truck in German use

Thanks to an idea from a French customer I created two new mid-size trucks. The Peugeot DMA as Ambulance and as a standard truck. Both were in use with the German Army, mostly in Russia and other European Theaters.
For Charles I converted both versions in 1/160.

At the moment they are at Shapeways at the printer. As soon as I get them back, I will post here some pictures.
