12/52 eine kleine Osterüberraschung: deutscher Sturmboot-Transporter

Typ V-ST-02 (Sturmboottransporter)

An diesem kleinen Leckerbissen ist ein gewisser Herr U aus K Schuld. der hatte mir den Floh ins Ohr gesetzt, nachdem ich die deutschen Sturmboote gezeichnet hatte. Ich kannte das Boot eigentlich nur flüchtig, obwohl ich das Buch mit den meisten Fotos über das Original sogar zuhause im Schrank habe. In dem Buch von Waldemar Trojca " Landungspioniere im Einsatz 1939 - 1945" ist das Schiff sehr gut beschrieben und alle bekannten Fotos finden sich dort. Zusammen mit der Dokumentation im Marinearchiv ja dann kein Problem. Dennoch hatte es Monate gedauert. Angefangen hatte ich direkt, doch dann war ich irgendwo vorn am Rumpf gescheitert, der wollte nicht so wie ich und dann musste ich noch die Rutschen zeichnen. Letzte Woche habe ich die Zeichnung wieder rausgezogen und alles fertig gezeichnet. Das Modell wird dann nach Ostern zum Druck gehen. Bis dahin habe ich genügen neue Modelle fertig, so dass sich die hohen Versandkosten wenigstens etwas lohnen. Aktuell kommt das Modell ohne die Sturmboote. Die müsste man dann extra kaufen. Grund dafür ist, dass ich bereits 20 Stk zuhause habe und nicht noch weitere wollte. Ausserdem habe ich nach der Fertigstellung auch noch ein Video gefunden, welches auch zeigt, wie die Stumboote anlegten.

Type V-ST-02 (assault boat transporter)

This little tidbit is the fault of a certain Mr. U from K. He had put the flea in my ear after I had drawn the German assault boats. I knew the boat actually only fleetingly, although I have the book with most photos about the original even at home in the cupboard. In the book by Waldemar Trojca " Landungspioniere im Einsatz 1939 - 1945" the ship is very well described and all known photos can be found there. Together with the documentation in the navy archive yes then no problem. Nevertheless it had taken months. I had started directly, but then I had failed somewhere in the front of the hull, which did not want as I did and then I still had to draw the slides. Last week I pulled out the drawing again and finished everything. The model will go to print after Easter. Until then I have enough new models ready, so the high shipping costs are at least a little bit worth it. Currently the model comes without the assault boats. You would have to buy them separately. Reason for this is that I already have 20 pcs at home and didn't want to buy more. I also found a video after the completion, which also shows how the Stumboote docked.

Heute stelle ich den großen Bruder vom Pionierlandungsboot 39 vor. Das kleine Modell habe ich ja schon lange im Programm (Pionierlandungsboot 39). Das Modell kommt mit den Türen / Toren, die in verschiedenen Positionen dargestellt werden können. Weiter kommen auch zwei Rampenteile dazu. Hier gibt es einige Fotos, die solche Rampen im Einsatz zeigen. Außerdem sind auch die normalen Rampen dabei.

Das Modell als solches habe ich ja schon vorgestellt. Seit ein paar Wochen liegt es auch als Druck auf meinem Basteltisch und wurde immer wieder erfolgreich von rechts nach links geschoben. Die Tage habe ich mich dann mal hingesetzt und angefangen das Modell anzumalen. Eigentlich ging das ganz schnell, grosse Flächen und nur 2 oder 3 Farben. Jetzt geht es weiter mit den Details und den Zubehörteilen.

Zunächst aber mal hier der aktuelle Zwischenstand:

Das Sturmboot ist schon fertig, die Rampe ein Stück zu lang,

Wie bei so ziemlich allen meinen Schiffen fehlt auch hier die Reling. Das liegt daran, dass die beim Drucken fast immer bricht, oder aber so dick wird, dass es unansehlich wird. Man könnte natürlich mit Faden oder Gitarrendraht hier was probieren, doch oft bin ich dann dafür einfach zu faul. Was ich noch testen muss, ist die Positionierung der beiden Schiffsgeschütze. Hierzu habe ich mir etwas einfallen lassen, enînen Adapter, der entweder als Bolzen zur Befestigung der Geschütze dient, oder umgedreht das Loch auf der Ladefläche verdeckt. Ganz so wie es im Original war. Die wenigen Fotos, die es von den Original Schiffen gibt, zeigen diese übrigens alle ohne die Geschütze. Wahrscheinlich war der Transportraum viel wichtiger als eine Fähre mit 2 Geschützen.

 Pioneer landing craft 43 in 1/144

I have already presented the model as such. For a few weeks it has been lying on my desk as a print and has been successfully moved from right to left. The days I sat down and started to paint the model. Actually, it went quite fast, large areas and only 2 or 3 colors. Now it goes on with the details and the accessories.

But first above is the current status.

As with pretty much all my ships, the railing is missing. This is because it almost always breaks during printing, or becomes so thick that it becomes unsightly. You could of course try something with thread or guitar wire here, but often I'm just too lazy for that. What I still have to test is the positioning of the two ship's guns. For this I came up with something, an adapter, which either serves as a bolt for mounting the guns, or upside down covers the hole on the loading area. Just like it was in the original. By the way, the few photos that exist of the original ships show them all without the guns. Probably the transport space was much more important than a ferry with 2 guns.

06/52 Pionierlandungsboot 43 Teil I

Deutsches Pionierlandungsboot 43 in 1/144

Ich bin mal wieder in den Bereich der deutschen Landungsschiffe eingetaucht und habe mir ein weiteres oder besser gesagt, gleich 2 deutsche Landungsschiffe gezeichnet. Allerdings werde ich heute erst eines vorstellen, das andere ist beim Druck durchgefallen und ich muss wohl noch einige Anpassungen machen, so dass es auch sicher gedruckt werden kann. 

Zunächst hatte ich angefangen den Marineartillerieleichter Typ II (MAL II) zu zeichnen. Während des Quellenstudiums habe ich dann festgestellt, dass dieses Design Ausgangspunkt für die Entwicklung de Pionierlandungsbootes 43 war. Der Name sagte mir nicht soviel, weshalb ich in einigen Büchern suchen musste. Im Internet findet man auch nicht wirklich viel zu dem Schiff / Boot. Das Schiff wurde wie viele Landungsboote am Bodensee von der Bodan Werft entworfen und gebaut. Vorgabe war möglichst viele Teile des Marineartillerieleichters Typ II zu verwenden.

Bis zum Ende des Krieges schaffte es die Bodan Werft einige Exemplare fertig zu stellen und diese an die Kriegsmarine bzw. an die Landungstruppen (der Wehrmacht) zu übergeben. Alle Schiffe wurden in der Ostsee eingesetzt und bei Kriegsende selbst versenkt. Wie so oft, ist die Zahl der erhalten gebliebenen Bilder sehr übersichtlich, aber es reichte doch, um das Modell ziemlich exakt umzusetzen. Leider kann ich aber noch immer keine Geländer anbieten, diese brechen beim Reinigen des Modells und dann sieht es nicht mehr schön aus. 

Wie üblich befinden sich alle Zurüstteile im Innern des Schiffes. Neben den Anbauteilen ist auch ein Sturmboot enthalten, da das Pionierlandungsboote am Heck über eine so genannte Sturmboot-Rutsche verfügte.

Bei der Bewaffnung bin ich etwas vom Original abgewichen. statt der 8.8 Flak habe ich die 10.5 cm SK C32 gezeichnet, die gefällt mir besser. Jedoch bin ich mir nicht sicher, ob die Landungsboote überhaupt die Waffen bekommen hatten, Geschütze waren zum Kriegsende hin Mangelware und alle Fotos zeigen die Schiffe nur als Fähre.


Und hier nur die ersten Fotos auf die Schnelle gemacht, ich werde erst in den nächsten Tagen dazu kommen, mit der Bemalung beginnen zu können.

German Pioneer Landing Ship 43 in 1/144

I have once again delved into the realm of German landing crafts and have drawn myself another, or rather, 2 German landing craft at once. However, I will only present one today, the other one fell through at printing and I guess I have to make some adjustments so that it can be printed safely. 

First I had started to draw the Marineartillerieleichter Typ II (MAL II). While studying the sources I found out, that this design was the starting point for the development of the Pionierlandungsboot 43. The name didn't mean that much to me, so I had to search in some books. On the internet you can't really find much about the ship / boat either. The ship was designed and built like many landing craft at Lake Constance by the Bodan shipyard. The specification was to use as many parts of the naval artillery lighter type II as possible.

By the end of the war, the Bodan shipyard managed to complete several examples and hand them over to the Kriegsmarine or to the landing forces (of the Wehrmacht). All the ships were used in the Baltic Sea and were themselves sunk at the end of the war. As is often the case, the number of surviving pictures is very limited, but it was enough to make the model fairly accurate. Unfortunately, however, I still can not offer railings, they break when cleaning the model and then it no longer looks nice. 

As usual, all of the add-on parts are inside the ship. In addition to the attachments, a storm boat is also included, as the pioneer landing craft had a so-called storm boat chute at the stern.

26/52 italienischer Fährprahm, Motozattera MZ-B

Die italienische Version des deutschen Marinefährprahms: Die Motozattera

Irgendwie hatte es mich diese Woche gereizt mal wieder etwas Neues zu zeichnen. Nachdem ich in den letzten Wochen viele alte Zeichnungen reparieren musste, Modelle in andere Masstäbe umgewandelt hatte, wollte ich mal wieder bei Null anfangen und etwas zeichnen, was mir viel Freude bereiten würde. Also fiel meine Wahl auf ein Landungsschiff. Da ich den Typ D des deutschen Marinefährprahms bereits hatte, dachte ich an die italienische Variante. Die Italiener träumten davon Malta zu besetzen, hatten aber keine bzw. nicht genügend und qualifizierte Landungsschiffe. deshalb bekamen sie die Pläne für die deutschen Fährprahme. So wie ich es verstanden habe, waren die Unterschiede eher klein, Motoren und insbesondere die Bewaffnung waren die grössten Unterschiede. Die Marinefährprahme wurden in Italien von lokalen Werften nach deutschen Zeichnungen und wurden Motorattera genannt. 

Die Zeichnung stand in knapp 2 Tagen, dann ging es an die Details und die Bewaffnung. Mit der Bewaffnung konnte ich nicht viele Informationen finden. Deshalb kommt mein Schiff mit der Cannone da "76/40". Diese Version einer leichten Flak wurde oft bei der italienischen Marine eingesetzt. Das MG am Heck stammt aus meinem Bestand. Für den Druck befinden sich alle Zurüstteile wie immer im Bauch des Schiffes, mit dabei sind Rettungsringe, 2 Rettungsflösse und 2 kleine Ruderboote und Leitern und Maste. Die Bemalung ist nicht ganz eindeutig, Farbe war auch in Italien im 2. WK Mangelware, also einfach in grau lackieren.

Italian version of the German Marinefährprahm: Motozattera MZ-B

Somehow it had irritated me this week times again to draw something new. After I had to repair many old drawings in the last weeks, had converted models into other scales, I wanted to start again from scratch and draw something that would give me a lot of pleasure. So my choice fell on a landing ship. Since I already had the Type D of the German naval ferry barge, I thought of the Italian version. The Italians dreamed of occupying Malta, but had no or not enough and qualified landing ships. so they got the plans for the German Fährprahme. As I understood it, the differences were rather small, engines and especially armament were the biggest differences. The naval ferry prams were built in Italy by local shipyards according to German drawings and were called Motorattera. 

The drawing was done in less than 2 days, then it was time to work on the details and the armament. With the armament I could not find much information. Therefore my ship comes with the Cannone da "76/40". This version of a light anti-aircraft gun was often used by the Italian Navy. The MG at the stern is from my stock. For the print all the kit parts are in the belly of the ship as usual, included are life rings, 2 life rafts and 2 small row boats and ladders and masts. The painting is not very clear, color was also scarce in Italy in WW2, so just paint in gray.

Herbert Ferry, first landing ferry for operation sealion Herbert Fähre für Operation Seelöwe 24/52

1/144 Herbert Fähre

Die Herbert Fähre war die erste Landungsfähre in einer langen Reihe von Landungsbooten. Das Herbert Material kam via dem österreichischen Heer zur Wehrmacht. Ursprünglich war es im ersten Weltkrieg als Brückengerät entwickelt worden. Die Wehrmacht baute daraus Fähren, die bei der Operation Seelöwe eingesetzt werden sollten. Die Probefahrten auf dem offenen Meer waren aber wohl nicht besonders überzeugend. Angetrieben worden die Herbert Fähren von Flugzeugmotoren. Zwei davon waren in offenen Gondeln auf der Plattform aufgebaut. Zum Steuern ware weitere 3 Motoren mit verlängerten Wellen am Heck installiert. Neben der schlechten Wassergängigkeit war auch der hohe Verbrauch am besonders wertvollen Flugzeug-Kerosin negativ. Dies alles führte schon wenig später zur Entwicklung der wesentlich besseren Siebelfähren.

The development of the German landing crafts started in WWII with the so called Herbert bridging material. The material was original used to build bridges and was designed during WWI. The Austrian Army had taken it from the Cezch Army, so finally it landed in the arsenals from the Wehrmacht. There they used it to build ferries and had the idea to use them for the planed landing in Great Britain. Motorized with two former fighter engines built up in open platforms. Additional three engines were used to control the ferry. So all engines got extended shafts. But the Herbert ferries do not convinced the Kriegsmarine. The reports said, that they were lame ducks and not really useable for a landing operation.

One big interest, at least for me, are the different types of German landing crafts. As you know, I have already a lot of them, so it was a good opportunity for me to get two new modifications. I bought via a big electronic platform two new versions from the Marinefährprahm. Made with Resin and more in the scale 1/60 than in real 1/144, they present a new version. At the back they have the additional platform for the 2 cm Flak and the closed wheel house.

Neue Marinefährprahme MFP

Ich bin ja ein begeisterter Sammler von deutschen Landungsschiffen und habe auch schon viele Typen und Varianten in meiner Sammlung. Als sich dann vor einigen Wochen die Gelegenheit ergab, noch zwei andere Versionen zu bekommen, konnte ich nicht warten. Auch wenn die beiden Modelle schon etwas älter sind, aus Resin und wohl eher 1/160 statt 1/144, ergänzen sie meine Sammlung recht gut. Die Modelle zeigen den Marinefährprahm 617, "Alles Gute". Dieser hatte einmal ein geschlossenes Ruderhaus und eine zweite erhöhte Plattform für ein zusätzliches 2 cm Geschütz.

Herbert Fähre für Operation Seelöwe

Mein nächstes Projekt ist jetzt soweit fertig, dass ich es hier vorstellen kann. Es handelt sich um eine Fähre aus Herbert-Brückenbauteilen. Wichtig, es handelt sich nicht um eine Siebelfähre. Herbert war ein Brückenbaugerät, welches der Wehrmacht nach der Eroberung Österreichs zur Verfügung stand. Der eigentliche Einsatzzweck war der Bau von schweren Kriegsbrücken. Bereits im ersten Weltkrieg wurde mit diesem Material eine Brücke über die Donau gebaut.
Mit Beginn der Planungen für die Operation Seelöwe, wurde geprüft, aus was man alles Fähren bauen könnte. So wurden auch aus den Herbert Pontons mehrere Fähren gebaut und diese mit alten ausgedienten Flugzeugmotoren angetrieben. In weiteren Versuchen wurden auch LKW Diesel montiert und damit Schiffsschrauben angetrieben. Die etwas später verwendeten Siebelfähren hatten andere Pontons, die Front und Endschiffe waren unterschiedlich und wohl der wichtigste Unterschied, die Motoren waren im Endschiff eingebaut. Die Grösse der Siebelfähre war auch etwas grösser.
Das Modell wird fertig zusammengebaut kommen, d.h. kein Kleben oder so, lediglich lackieren muss jeder selbst.

Herbert ferry for operation Sea Lion

My next project is now ready for printing. The Herbert ferry was a step in between on the way to the Siebel ferries. First experiences were made with Brückenbaugerät B. Then the Wehrmacht started trials with the Herbert material, they got from the Austrian Army. The Herbert material was a construction set to build strong bridge over all rivers. In WWI the Austrian Army crossed the Donau river with a Herbert bridge.
The Herbert ferry looks like a Siebel ferry but the used material was different.
The trials were not very successful, so they added no longer used fighter engines and then 3 Diesel truck engines. Parallel the started with the Siebel system and there the engine was built inside the end ship part, why this design was much better. Additionally they switched completely to truck engines as they needed less gas and not the special kerosene,which the fighter engines needed. 

The model will come in one piece, so no glue is needed.

1/144 MarineArtillerieLeichter (MAL), Typ IA 38/52

English version

During WWII the Finish Army fought together with Germany against Russia. To support the Finish Navy, the Germans delivered several MALs (Marine Artillery Leichter) to Finland. 
Some years ago, I had designed this model and got it 3D printed. Quickly I had to realize, that the dimensions were not 100% correct. With the publishing of the Finish WWII picture archive I got the wonderful opportunity to find a lot of pictures of these MALs in Finish service. Best of all, the Finish photographer took pictures during the time, the Germans completed the ships in Finland and during the training of the crews. With all these details it was much easier to redesign the ship again. If you want, on my old never completed Homepage, I show some pictures of the old version.
The design was done, printing no problem and next was the painting. Actually you need mostly two colors, wood for the platform and a dark grey for the ship. After painting all details and the adding them to the ship, it is ready to be used.

Während des 2. Weltkrieges kämpfte Finnland an der Seite Deutschlands gegen die Russen. Deshalb bekam die finnische Marine aus Deutschland mehrere Marineartillerieleichter geliefert. Vor ein oder zwei Jahren hat Finnland grosse Fotobestände online gestellt. Darunter befanden sich auch Unmengen von Fotos aus dem 2. Weltkrieg. So fand ich mit Hilfe des Forums Marinearchiv auch ganz viele Fotos mit Detials dieses doch recht unbekannten Schiffstyps.
Endlich habe ich auch mal die Musse gefunden, mein vor Jahren gebautes Modell richtig umzusetzen. Wer sich das antun will und mal sehen will, wie Modelle von mir zum Anfang aussahen, kann auf meiner nie fertig gestellten Homepage mal schauen.Schnell hatte ich beim ersten Modell festgestellt, dass die Breite und die Aufbauten irgendwie nicht richtig zusammen passten. Leider blieb es bei dieser Erkenntnis und ich hatte nie die Zeit gefunden, es von Grund auf richtig umzusetzen. Das ist jetzt Geschichte. Da ich bereits einige Schiffe gezeichnet hatte, die Geschütze als 3D Zeichnung besass, ging es nur noch darum, alle richtig zu kombinieren und die Abmessungen korrekt in 1/144 zu bringen.
Alles erledigt und fertig!
Die Bemalung ging auch recht schnell, Holz und die Aufbauten in einem dunklen grau, bessere Farbangaben hatte ich keine gefunden. Dann noch die ganzen Details angeklebt und schon kann das Schiff zu Wasser gelassen werden.

Before I will present the next new designs I took pictures of my today existing German Kriegsmarine designs. Most of them are Landungsboote, meaning to bring staff and tanks / trucks on land.

Today I present you some of my smaller vessel from the German Kriegsmarine.

The armada is built by 

- 2 Infanterietransporter

- Pionierlandungsboot 39 

Marinefährprahm and Artilleriefährprahm some progress 16/52

During the last days I found some time to continue painting my new new Kriegsmarine ships. Parallel I started painting the second one, the Marinefährprahm type D. For the Artilleriefährprahm I went with the 3 tone which was used in Norway. The Fährprahm will get something similar, but I haven't decided finally.
Further I added several Details like the guns and the 3.7 cm Flak. All life rafts are painted and the two sets for the Crew arrived from Arrowhead Miniatures Originally they are designed to work for the Luftwaffe, but I am sure they will do their duty for the Kriegsmarine as well.
