Japanischer Radar-Anhänger in 1/144

Auf einem meiner kleinen Mini-Dioramas hat sich heute ein japanische Anhänger eingenist. Aufgebaut ist ein japanisches Radargerät. Das Modell entstand nach einer Skizze mit einigen wenigen Details und Abmessungen. Ich wollte schon schreiben, dass es im Internet kaum Informationen zu japanischen Radaranlagen gibt, doch dies stimmt nicht. Beim Schreiben diese Textzeilen habe ich nochmals geschaut und siehe da, wer sucht, der findet auch. So habe ich jetzt auch ein paar Fotos zu meinen Radar-Anhänger gefunden. Doch erst das Modell. Dies ist wie immer im 3D Verfahren gezeichnet und und gedruckt worden. Auch hier gilt, die Antenne ist im Original eine dünne Blechkonstruktion, während mein Modell im Original eher eine Schwereisenkonstruktion darstellen würde.

A Japanese trailer has been added to one of my small mini dioramas today. It is a Japanese radar unit. The model was based on a sketch with a few details and dimensions. I wanted to write that there is hardly any information about Japanese radar systems on the Internet, but this is not true. While writing these lines of text, I looked again and lo and behold, if you search, you will find. So I have now also found a few photos of my radar trailers. But first the model. As always, this was drawn and printed in 3D. Again, the antenna is a thin sheet metal construction in the original, while my model would be more of a heavy iron construction in the original.

Das Kleinst U-Boot Neger oder Marder habe ich schon vor sehr langer Zeit gezeichnet. Doch vor kurzem habe ich einen interessanten Anhänger gefunden, beladen mit 3 Marder U-Boote. Als Basis diente der Anhänger für den Molch. Da ich alle Teile hatte, habe ich diese neue Kombination geschaffen. Dabei habe ich mich dann doch entschieden, alle Teile komplett neu zu zeichnen. Das war mir lieber, als mich mit alten Zeichnungen rum zu schlagen. Der Anhänger wurde so in Dänemark aufgenommen, in einem Depot der Wehrmacht, das die dänische Armee nach der Kapitulation übernommen hatte. Dort fanden sich sehr viele U-Boote vom Typ Marder und Molch, eben auf den Anhängern, bzw. diesem abgewandelten Anhänger. Sobald ich das Modell gedruckt habe, werde ich auch erstmals die Abwicklung für die Plane im Shop veröffentlichen. Das Modell kommt also mit dem Anhänger und mit 3 komplett neu überarbeiteten U-Booten vom Typ Marder.

I drew the small submarine Neger or Marder a very long time ago. But recently I found an interesting trailer loaded with 3 Marder submarines. The trailer for the pig served as a base. Since I had all the parts, I created this new combination. I then decided to draw all the parts from scratch. I preferred that to struggling with old drawings. The trailer was taken in Denmark, in a Wehrmacht depot that the Danish army had taken over after the surrender. There were a lot of Marder and Molch submarines there, just on the trailers, or this modified trailer. As soon as I have printed the model, I will also publish the processing for the tarpaulin in the store for the first time. So the model comes with the trailer and with 3 completely reworked Marder submarines.

Shapeways und ich haben ja immer so unsere Diskussionen, sie bestehen auf ihren Mindestdruckstärken und ich kreuze da immer hart am Wind. In den letzten Wochen habe ich dann mal wieder verloren,. Meine deutsche Feldküche im Pferdezug wurde bei einem Kunden gestrichen, weil die Beine der Pferde immer wieder brachen. Halt zu dünn. Das Reparieren war recht aufwendig, die Zeichnung ist komplex und ich konnte die Beine nicht richitg messen. Jetzt habe ich mir ein Herz genommen und entschlossen die Füsse massiv zu verstärken. Auf einem Foto sah ich nämlich ein paar Kaltblüter, die ein Pferdegespann zogen, und deren Beine waren massiv dicker als bei normalen Reitpferden.

Wenn ich also schon die Pferde überarbeite, wollte ich auch ein neues Gespann haben. Meine Wahl fiel auf den grossen Gefechtswagen, eine geschweisste Ausführung, gut gemeint, aber beladen im Feld für die Pferde fast nicht mehr zu ziehen.  Einzige Alternative waren entweder 4 Pferde oder halt das Ziehen durch einen LKW. Wobei ich sagen muss, dass die Wagen im Vergleich zu den Modellen des 1. WK recht fortschrittlich aussahen.

Shapeways and I always have our discussions, they insist on their minimum pressures and I always cross hard into the wind. In the last few weeks I've lost out again. My German field kitchen in a horse-drawn train was canceled by a customer because the horses' legs kept breaking. Just too thin. The repair was quite time-consuming, the drawing is complex and I couldn't measure the legs correctly. Now I took heart and decided to massively reinforce the legs. I saw a photo of a couple of cold-blooded horses pulling a team of horses and their legs were much thicker than those of normal riding horses.

So if I was going to overhaul the horses, I also wanted a new team. My choice fell on the large combat wagon, a welded version, well-intentioned but almost impossible for the horses to pull when loaded in the field.  The only alternative was either 4 horses or a truck to pull it. I have to say that the wagons looked quite advanced compared to the models of WW1.

Ein weiteres Modell, welches ich jetzt anbiete, ist das Set mit zwei Wasseranhängern des deutschen Afrikakorps. Dabei handelt es sich mit grosser Wahrscheinlichkeit um Umbauten im Feld. Dies waren keine Standard-Anhänger der Wehrmacht. Woher die Tankaufbauten kamen, kann ich leider nicht sagen. Aber es gibt ein Foto des Vorbildes, dort zusammen mit einem Hanomag SS 100 als Zugmaschine. Mein Set kommt mit den beiden Wassertank-Anhängern und einer Wasserstelle. Die ist zwar reine Fantasie, jedoch entspricht sie in etwa anderen Wasserstellen, die ich auf Bildern aus dieser Zeit gefunden hatte. Bei den grösseren Massstäben werde ich dann nur einen Anhänger ohne Wasserstelle anbieten.

Another model I offer now is the set with two water trailers of the German Afrikakorps. These are most likely field conversions. These were not standard Wehrmacht trailers. Unfortunately, I cannot say where the tank superstructures came from. But there is a photo of the prototype, there together with a Hanomag SS 100 as tractor. My set comes with the two water tank trailers and a water point. This one is pure fantasy, but it roughly corresponds to other water points I had found on pictures from that time. For the larger scales I will then offer only one trailer without water point.

Den Anhänger habe ich noch nicht vorgestellt. Das Original wurde von der italienischen Armee zum Transport der M13 Panzer verwendet. Gezogen wurde er oft von dem Lancia 3 Ro. Damit ist auch klar, wie ich auf den Anhänger gekommen bin. Im Internet exsistiert keine einzige Zeichnung, jedoch habe ich eine Zeichnung in einem Buch über die italiensiche Panzerwaffe gefunden. So waren die Konstruktion und die Abmessungen nicht so schwer, lediglich wegen den Mindest-Druckstärken musste ich ein paar Kompromisse eingehen. Ich habe meine Modelle in schwarz lackiert, auf den wenigen Fotos, die ich gefunden hatte, sieht man ihn in einer dunklen Farbe. Damit die Druckkosten nicht zu teuer werden, habe ich gleich ein Set mit 2 Anhängern gemacht. Anderer Masstab gewünscht? Kein Problem, einfach melden.

I have not presented the trailer yet. The original was used by the Italian army to transport the M13 tanks. It was often pulled by the Lancia 3 Ro. So it is clear how I got the trailer. There is no drawing on the internet, but I found a drawing in a book about the Italian tank weapon. So the construction and the dimensions were not so difficult, only because of the minimum pressure thicknesses I had to make some compromises. I painted my models in black, on the few photos I found you can see him in a dark color. To keep the printing costs down, I made a set of 2 trailers right away. Other scale desired? Neuheiten 2023 für 1/144

Auch wenn ich aktuell selbst nicht zum Basteln und Anmalen komme, will ich doch einige neue Modelle vorstellen. Einen Teil habe ich in alten Beiträgen vorgestellt, doch es gibt auch ein paar ganz neue Modelle. Insbesondere zum Ende des Videos stelle ich mein persönliches Highlight für dieses Jahr vor. Das Modell ist lang und sehr außergewöhnlich!

First update for 2023

Even if I myself do not currently come to tinkering and painting, I want to introduce some new models. A part I have presented in old posts, but there are also a few completely new models. Especially at the end of the video I present my personal highlight for this year. The model is long and very unusual!

700 Modelle in meinem kleinen Shop

Heute habe ich mal was anderes, wahrscheinlich für die wenigsten von Belang, aber mich freut es umso mehr. Seit Sonntag habe ich 700 Modelle in meinem Shop im Angebot. Klar es sind nicht 700 verschiedene Modelle, aber dafür viele Modelle im Massstab von 1/160 bis hin zu 1/76. Dabei sind Modelle, die ich noch nie verkauft habe, bis solche, die sich schon an die 20-mal verkauft haben. Und immer wieder kommen auch Wünsche nach neuen Modellen oder dem Umwandeln in einen bestimmten Massstab rein. Dabei geht zwar nicht alles in jedem Massstab, doch wo möglich, bemühe ich mich, die Wünsche zu erfüllen. Damit habe ich im November bereits eines meiner selbst gesteckten Ziele erreicht, das andere Ziel, jede Woche einen Blogeintrag zu erzeugen, werde ich dieses Jahr wohl nicht schaffen. Aktuell bin ich schon 8 Wochen hintendran.

Es ist die Nachbildung eines weiteren Exoten. Gefunden habe ich das Original auf 
der großartigen Seite o5m6.de, dort wurde unter Kampanien ein Wohnanhänger der italienischen Armee vorgestellt. Dieser wurde allen italienischen Generälen zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Anhänger wurde von der Firma Bartoletti hergestellt. Das Modell kommt mit dem Anhänger, einer Treppe und einem Tisch mit 4 Stühlen, damit Rommel nicht nur darin wohnen, sondern auch seine Besprechungen draussen abhalten kann.

            700 Models inside my small shop

Today I have something different, probably for the few of concern, but I am even more pleased. Since Sunday I have 700 models in my store on offer. Sure, there are not 700 different models, but many models in scale from 1/160 up to 1/76. There are models that I have never sold, to those that have already sold about 20 times. And again and again I get requests for new models or the conversion to a certain scale. Not everything works in every scale, but where possible, I try to fulfill the wishes. So I already reached one of my self-set goals in November, the other goal, to create a blog entry every week, I will probably not manage this year. Currently I am already 8 weeks behind. 

And here is a quick introduction to the model nr. 700

It is a replica of another exotic. I found the original on the great site o5m6.de, there 
was presented under campaign a trailer of the Italian army. This one was made available to all Italian generals. The trailer was made by the company Bartoletti. The model comes with the trailer, a staircase and a table with 4 chairs, so that Rommel could not only live in it, but also hold his meetings outside.

Das Weihnachtswunschmodell 2022

In meinem letzten Post habe ich gefragt, welches Modell am Meisten für Weihnachten gewünscht wird. Nachdem jetzt einige Antowrten und Wünsche eingetroffen sind, steht der Sieger ganz klar fest. Es wird :

das STRASSENTRANSPORTSET für den schweren Mörser Karl (Gerät 41) 

Doch was genau ist das Strassentransportset für den Mörser Karl? Das Gerät 41, so die richtige, die offizielle Bezeichnung war ein überschwerer Mörser, der entweder mit der Eisenbahn in einer Sonderkonstruktion transportiert wurde, oder wenn es dann auf der Strasse weiterging, im demontierten Zustand. Dabei wurde der Mörser in 4 Lasten zerlegt. Die meisten Lasten konnten mit gekoppelten 2 Achs Culemeyer transportiert werden. Lediglich das Fahrgestell, das Herzstück, musste auf Grund des hohen Gewichts mit einem 80 ton Culemeyer transportiert werden.

Als Zugfahrzeuge wurden Sd. Kfz. 8 und Sd.Kfz. 9 eingesetzt. Zusätzlich wurde noch ein Anhänger für den Kran (Hersteller war Rheinmetall) benötigt. Im Netz gibt es ein schönes Foto eines kurzen Culemeyers, beladen bis oben mit Munitionskisten. Das sieht schön was, war aber wahrscheinlich ein zweckentfremdeter Culemeyer und nicht noch ein zusätzlicher Anhänger.

Ich werde mich jetzt bemühen bis Ende Nevember die Teile (ohne die Mörserteile) fertig zum Bestellen haben, im besten Fall auch in den anderen Massstäben.

The Christmas wish model 2022

In my last post I asked which model is most wanted for Christmas. After now some Antowrten and wishes have arrived, the winner is quite clear. It will be :

the STRASSENTRANSPORTSET for the heavy mortar Karl (device 41) 

But what exactly is the road transport set for the mortar Karl? The device 41, so the correct, the official name was a super heavy mortar, which was transported either by rail in a special construction, or if it then went on the road, in the dismantled state. In this case the mortar was disassembled into 4 loads. Most of the loads could be transported with coupled 2 axle Culemeyer. Only the chassis, the heart of the mortar, had to be transported with an 80 ton Culemeyer due to its heavy weight.

The towing vehicles used were Sd. Kfz. 8 and Sd. Kfz. 9 were used as towing vehicles. Additionally a trailer for the crane (manufacturer was Rheinmetall) was needed. On the net there is a nice photo of a short Culemeyer, loaded up to the top with ammunition boxes. This looks nice, but it was probably a misused Culemeyer and not an additional trailer.

Der Anhänger wurde von der bekannten italienischen Firma Vibreti hergestellt. Diese baute mehrere Anhänger für die italienische Armee. Da ich für Rommels Caravan bereits das Fahrgestell hatte, habe ich noch zwei weitere Varianten gezeichnet. Einmal der Panzertransporter für den M13/40 Panzer der italienischen Armee und dann einen Wasseranhänger. Der Wasseranhänger gab es wohl so, oder ähnlich wirklich bei der italienischen Armee, allerdings hab eich fast keine Fotos von Originalen gefunden.

The trailer was made by the famous Italian company Vibreti. They built several trailers for the Italian Army. Since I already had the chassis for Rommel's Caravan, I drew two more variants. Once the tank transporter for the M13/40 tank of the Italian army and then a water trailer. The water trailer really existed in the Italian army, but I found almost no photos of originals.

So jetzt habe ich rechtzeitig für die nächste Bestellung bei Shapeways auch noch den Anhänger für den Biber fertig gestellt. Der Anhänger an sich, ist ja nichts Besonderes, doch das Gestänge für die Plane war etwas tricky. Die Stangen sollten sich schon mittig treffen und durften nicht zu klein sein, damit sie beim Reinigen nach dem Drucken auch nicht brechen. Ein weiteres Problem, wenn das Gestänge auf dem Anhänger ist, bekommt man das U-Boot nicht mehr darunter. Also musste es vom Druck her so angepasst werden, dass man das U-Boot erst und dann das Gestänge ankleben kann.

Macht leider die Druckkosten etwas höher, da ich ja den benötigten Raum mitbezahle. Aktuell kommt der Anhänger ohne das U-Boot, ohne Zugmaschine. Bei Bedarf kann ich aber auch gerne ein Set mit einer entsprechenden Zugmaschine anbieten. Das U-Boot funktioniert leider noch nicht so ganz, der Turm stimmt noch nicht und am Heck habe ich noch viel zu dünne Elemente. Mal sehen, ob ich es doch noch hinbekomme.

So now I have finished the trailer for the Beaver in time for the next order at Shapeways. The trailer itself is nothing special, but the rods for the canvas were a bit tricky. The poles should meet in the middle and should not be too small, so that they do not break when cleaning after printing. Another problem, when the linkage is on the trailer, you can't get the submarine under it. So it had to be adjusted from the print so that you can glue the sub first and then the linkage.

Unfortunately, this makes the printing costs a little higher, since I pay for the required space. Currently, the trailer comes without the submarine, without tractor. But if needed, I can offer a set with a corresponding tractor. The submarine doesn't work yet, the turret isn't right yet and at the stern I still have much too thin elements. Let's see if I can still get it right.

Den österreichischen Mörser M16 als Fertigmodell habe ich ja schon fertig und vorgestellt (siehe hier). Die passende Zugmaschine, den Tatra T25 habe ich auch fertig und im 2. Anlauf wurde er von Shapeways auch richtig gedruckt. In den letzten Tagen habe ich mich daran gemacht und den Mörser auch als Reiseunternehmen zu zeichnen. Der ganze Mörser wurde in 4 Einheiten verladen. Die Grundplatte, das Rohr, ein Anhänger für die Munition und die Lafette. Als Zugfahrzeuge kamen die oben genannten Tatra zum Einsatz, es gibt aber auch Fotos, die verschiedene Halbkettenfahrzeuge zeigen. Dabei hatte cih dann aml wieder ein paar Herausforderungen zu meistern, da ja alles druckbar und doch möglichst dicht ans Original heranreichen sollte.

Mit etwas Hilfe von Gerhard aus Wien (nochmals vielen Dank!), konnte ich auch genaue Abmessungen für die Anhänger in Erfahrung bringen. Alle Anhänger waren im Grundaufbau gleich und untereinander auch austauschbar. Die Anhänger hatten die folgenden Ladungen zu tragen:

• - Anhänger für die Munition
• - Rohrwagen
• - Anhänger für die Bettung
• - Anhänger für die Lafette

Hier nun mal der aktuelle Stand der Umsetzung. Der Rohrwagen ist bis auf Kleinigkeiten fertig, mit den beiden Sitzen am Ende der Anhänger bin ich noch am überlegen, was am besten aussieht. Die Teile müssen auch noch so angeordnet werden, dass man die Anhänger und die Beladung auch seperat anmalen und nutzen kann. Allerdings wird es nicht möglich sein, mit den Einzelteilen auch einen kompetten Mörser wieder darstellen zu können. Hier musste ich einige Kompromisse eingehen.

Der Rohrwagen, hier fehlen noch ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die Stahlräder sind aber schon fertig und werden den Anhängern ein seltsames altertümliches Aussehen verleihen.

A mortar on the road, the Skoda M16 in parts

I have already finished and presented the Austrian mortar M16 as a finished model (here). The matching tractor, the Tatra T25 I have also finished and in the 2nd attempt it was also printed correctly by Shapeways. In the last days I made myself to it and to draw the mortar also as a travel company. The whole mortar was loaded in 4 units. The base plate, the barrel, a trailer for the ammunition and the gun carriage. As towing vehicles the above mentioned Tatra were used, but there are also photos showing different half-track vehicles. Again, I had to master a few challenges, because everything should be printable and as close as possible to the original.

With some help from Gerhard from Vienna (thanks again!), I was able to get exact dimensions for the trailers. All trailers had the same basic design and were interchangeable. The trailers had to carry the following loads:

- Trailer for ammunition

- pipe wagon

- Trailer for the bedding

- Trailer for the gun carriage

Here is the current state of the realization. The tube carriage is finished except for some small things, with the two seats at the end of the trailers I am still thinking about what looks best. The parts still have to be arranged so that the trailers and the loading can be painted and used separately. However, it will not be possible to reproduce a complete mortar with the individual parts. Here I had to make some compromises.
